The goal of Art Realm, established by the Tampere Art Museum, Hämeenlinna Art Museum, and Lahti Visual Arts Museum, is to empower art. The influence of art museums in the field of visual arts is significant, and in Art Realm, we aim to raise awareness of these power structures and blind spots in the visual arts field, while also examining the broader societal power structures. We wish to challenge ourselves, redefine the power of art, and use future-oriented power in collaboration with artists, experts, and our partners. Art Realm is a space where one can imagine futures—boldly and freely.
The theme of the Art Realm ’26 Biennale
The theme of the Art Realm ’26 Biennale can be summed up in one word: “Together.” We encourage radical imagination and dreaming. How can we, together, shape and create the future, influence it, and believe in its power? How can we create connections and understanding among diverse people?
For the summer 2026 Biennale, we are seeking diverse artwork proposals or concepts that explore the theme from different perspectives. We particularly welcome proposals that challenge the individualistic notion of the artist as the norm in visual art creation, as well as works emphasizing collective creativity or involving various communities. The theme can be approached on a content level by individual artists, artist pairs, or collectives.
The form of the works is open. They may be experienced in two-dimensional, spatial, communal, digital, performative, or site-specific forms in urban space.
