Events during the Art Realm Biennale ’24

Explore the Art Realm ’24 Biennial through our diverse event program at Hämeenlinna Art Museum. Guided tours and events are included in the museum admission unless otherwise specified. NB! Most events are held in Finnish.

Public guided tours (in Finnish)

Wednesdays & Sundays, 2:00 PM–3:00 PM
Last Sunday of each month, 1:00 PM–2:00 PM

Outdoor art walks (in Finnish)

Thursdays on June 20, July 25, August 8, August 15, and August 22, at 11am-12pm.
The walk starts from Toivomuskaivo artwork (Raatihuoneenkatu 17) at Hämeenlinna Market Square and ends at Vanai Bistro & Bastu (Mensanaukio 4). The walk is about 1 km, and participation is free of charge.

June 29: Create a vibrant self-portrait using collage techniques.
July 5: Build an insect hotel.
July 12: Craft futuristic animals from recycled materials.
July 19: Play with words in an expressive word art workshop.
July 26: Paint art using sunlight.
August 10: Explore local plant life and create ink drawings.
August 17: Shape a time capsule from clay.

Special days

Finnish Visual Arts Day on July 10

The museum is open from 11 am to 6 pm.

11:00 AM–2:00 PM: Soap bubble painting in Hämeenlinna Art Museum’s courtyard (in case of rain, held in the museum’s outdoor building)
12:00 PM–1:00 PM: Interactive guided tour for children (in Finnish)
2:00 PM–3:00 PM: Public guided tour (in Finnish)
3:00 PM–5:00 PM: Art Realm’s crown from natural materials – open workshop in Lohrmann building’s workshop space
10:00 AM–3:00 PM: Tuntu–Sense installation open in the lobby of Hämeenlinna Main Health Center
12:00 PM–6:00 PM: “Sweating Ears, Decaying Benches” – free slots can be booked for the artwork at Vanai Bistro & Bastu

Hippalot on August 1–4, Programme

  • Planetary Puzzle Workshop in Lohrmann workshop space (daily from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM)
    • In this free workshop, solve global challenges and design unique world-saving machines. Witness how artificial intelligence can transform these machines into visual forms. Adults participating with children in the workshop get free admission to the Art Realm ’24 Biennial on the workshop day.
  • Children’s mini-guided tours in Lohrmann building in Finnish (daily at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM)
  • Artist meetings in Finnish in Lohrmann building:
    • Saturday: Sauli Suomela at 12:00 PM & 2:00 PM
    • Sunday: Hanna Oinonen at 12:00 PM & 2:00 PM

Adults accompanying children to mini-guided tours and artist meetings can visit the Art Kingdom ’24 Biennial for free on the same day.

The Night of the Arts, August 30

Museum is open until 10:00 PM
Free admission to the Art Realm ’24 Biennial from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Program:

  • Pop-up intro-guided tours in Finnish on the hour at 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM, and 9:00 PM
  • 5:00 PM–6:00 PM: Interactive guided tour for children, in Finnish
  • 7:30 PM, 8:00 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:00 PM: Leena Lehti: “Existence.” Analog 8mm film projection with live accompaniment by musician Ville Väisänen.
  • Open art station in the museum courtyard from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM (in case of rain, held in Lohrmann building’s workshop space)
  • Liina Aalto-Setälä’s “Sweating Ears, Decaying Benches” artwork offers free slots to be reserved at Vanai Bistro & Bastu from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
